Over the years, you may have heard to be careful of the radiation from scanners at the airport, or to stand away from the microwave oven when it’s on, or to hold your mobile phone up away from your ear because of the radiation, but have you ever really thought about how radiation factors into your health journey?
Radiation is one of those silent triggers that we can’t see, taste, or smell, so it’s hard to realize how much of it we’re getting exposed to. Plus, the effects of it may not show up for a period of time, which makes it harder to realize that may have been what was causing the issue.

Let’s start with the basics – what is electromagnetic radiation and why is it harmful?
At the root of it, radiation is energy and an area of this radiation energy is called an electromagnetic field (EMF). Higher frequency radiation tends to be more harmful and includes things like X-Rays, medical treatment radiation, and UV light. Lower frequency radiation includes things like cell phones and microwaves. And while those are thought to be safer, they are still emitting radiation which can be harmful, especially when you are exposed at close range for extended periods of time.

And here’s something to think about – some of the common symptoms of radiation poisoning are fatigue, eczema, nausea, headaches, and hair loss, plus it weakens your immune system. What’s so tricky is that these are ‘common’ symptoms with a variety of causes so it may be hard to isolate that radiation is one of the underlying sources because of its invisible nature. But if you are struggling with some of these, it may be time to examine your exposure.
And be mindful of this type of exposure for your children as well – the bones of their skulls are thinner and provides them less protection, so the radiation can get to their brains more easily.
In the Quest for Healing Podcast, Episode #45, How Recognizing a Radiation Trigger Revealed the Road to Recovery from Eczema, healing warrior Lynette Lai talks about how she realized that radiation was a primary trigger for the eczema that she was dealing with on large areas of her body and how it would flare anytime she would be exposed to a lot of mobile phone signals or Wi-Fi signals. This was such a great conversation because with her extreme sensitivity, Lynette was our canary in a coal mine!
What are some of the common sources of radiation that you’re being exposed to?
Radiation is present everywhere and it is practically impossible to avoid it entirely. However, you can focus on certain common sources of radiation and minimize those exposures.
Some common sources of radiation:
Airport scanners, medical or dental X-rays, and radiation therapy treatments.
Personal devices such as cell phones, tablets, computers or any device that connects with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology. Keep in mind that this will also include things like Wi-Fi-enabled keyboards and computer mouses, printers, and personal activity tracking devices. Ear phones, especially wireless ones, can also bring radiation close to your brain.
Household items: In addition to appliances like your microwave oven, in recent years, manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon and have started creating a myriad of items around the home that can be controlled wirelessly and through apps on your cellphone. For each of these to work, they generally need to be Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth connected, which will increase the amount of radiation in your home. This includes things like ‘smart’ electric meters, remote-controlled motorized blinds, smart speakers, video doorbells, electric toothbrushes that upload data into your cellphone, and many, many more.
Radiation sources aren’t limited to your home, they also include the Wi-Fi and cell phone signals in your car. And as Lynette discussed on the podcast, the radiation from these can bounce around in the confines of your car.
How can you reduce your exposure to radiation?
According to the EPA, about half of the radiation we get exposed to is from medical treatments. So when exploring therapies, discuss your options with your doctor. Thermography or ultrasound may be an alternative to a mammogram or other X-ray. And if X-rays cannot be avoided, be sure to cover yourself with a lead apron. This is commonly provided and when covered, it can protect your thyroid and reproductive organs.
In regards to personal electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and computers, here are a few ideas that can help reduce your exposure to radiation:
If the screen is cracked on your mobile phone, get it repaired.
Turn off the Bluetooth signal when you don't need it.
Use an Ethernet adaptor to connect your phone or tablet to the internet while at home, so that you can turn off the Wi-Fi.
Turn off the cellular signal or use Airplane Mode when not in use.
Downgrade the cellular signal on your phone to 3G from 4G or 5G when not in active use. If you have an iPhone, go to Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Options, and then under Voice & Data, choose 3G.
Do not tuck your devices into the pockets of your clothing or into your sports bra. Having that source so close increases the exposure.
Charge devices when you are not using them. They emit more radiation during charging.
In Anthony William's Medical Medium: Life Changing Foods book ($), he recommends keeping a raw potato out on the counter in your home to absorb EMFs. Don’t forget to throw it out weekly and don’t eat it afterwards.
Choose non-Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices for common appliances around the home, including stereo equipment, landline telephones, electric toothbrushes, and kitchen appliances. While it might be convenient to have a “smart home,” your radiation and EMF exposure will also be higher.
There are a couple of ways to lower your exposure in your car. The first is to turn off the car’s Wi-Fi when not needed. Secondly, if it is needed for something like GPS, crack the car windows to release the radiation bouncing around inside the car.
Airport scanners are a source of significant radiation. When traveling, opt for the magnetic detectors instead of the full body scanners whenever possible. And keep in mind that your luggage will be exposed to radiation as well. Medical Medium has said that luggage absorbs radiation from airport scanners so suitcases should not be stored near the areas of your home where you spend most of your time, such as near or under your bed. In addition, he recommends replacing your luggage after every few flights.
Orgonite can be a helpful tool to reduce your exposure to radiation. Orgonite comes in pyramids, pendants, and other shapes. Stay tuned for more information on orgonite in upcoming podcasts and blog posts!
In terms of foods that can help you detox radiation, Medical Medium has taught us that foods like aloe, apples, cherries, onions, dulse and kelp, spirulina, sweet potatoes and grapes (as well as many others) can be helpful. Also in his first book, Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal ($), he recommends a tea blend that he calls Anti-Radiation tea, which includes kelp, dulse, dandelion leaf, and nettle leaf teas, to help remove radiation.
What are some products that can help to reduce your radiation exposure?
DefenderShield Phone Cases ($): I have used one of these over the past few years. When you close the cover, it will protect you from the radiation and you will still be able to talk on the phone while holding it up to your ear when you don’t have ear buds available.
Belly Armor Anti-Radiation Belly Blanket ($): I use this when I’m working on my computer on my lap, or using my tablet or phone and resting it on my tummy. These were designed for pregnant ladies, but are a good way to protect yourself as well. This one is machine washable (air dry) and has rather started to feel like Linus’s security blanket for me….
RJ45 Ethernet LAN Network Adapter for Phone or Tablet ($): This is a great way to wire your phone or tablet when you’re at home so that you can turn off the Wi-Fi, especially if you are using it while sitting at your desk all day.
Landline phone like the AT&T Trimline phone ($): I have had many of these over the years, and this is a great, simple phone, if you still have a landline.
DefenderShield Air Tube Earbuds ($): These have been designed so that the part of the earbuds that are closest to your head are tubes of air instead of wires in order to keep the EMFs away from your brain.
Orgonite pyramids and pendants: KatWB.com - The one I have from her is my most recent orgonite acquisition and it’s so beautiful!
